On Thursday, November 14th, Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center will host two informational seminars outlining important issues that affect all families following the loss of a loved one. The event is free and, to accommodate attendees who work during the day, “Coffee & Conversation” will be offered twice on the same day. The first seminar is scheduled for 10:00am and the second begins at 6:00pm in the funeral home’s on-site reception hall.
“Our goal has always been to meet the needs of families after the loss of a loved one but, especially in recent years, we’ve become more focused on helping people avoid problems that they may experience in the future,” said Darrin Cantrell, Family Service Director. Cantrell is a Porterville native with nearly 15 years of experience working with funeral homes in Tulare, Kings, and Fresno Counties.
A study by ID Analytics, a fraud prevention firm, found that 2.5 million deceased Americans’ identities are used improperly each year, and the results can be devastating, both financially and emotionally. Cantrell has developed a program that is being used at many funeral homes across the country to help families after the death of a loved one and what they can do to prepare ahead of time.
“Just because the funeral services are over, the people we serve are still part of our family. We are hosting this event because we believe everyone should have access to this information, not just those families who use our funeral home,” said Cantrell. “Porterville has always been a place where people can rely on others to help in a time of need and that’s always been part of our DNA at Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center.”
Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center (formerly Whitehurst Peters Loyd Funeral Home) opened its new location at the corner or Henderson Ave. and Indiana St. nearly 10 years ago but first opened for business in 1913 when the Murray family purchased the former location on Hockett St. Today, Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center (www.portervillefuneral.com) serves more than 350 families each year.
